Officially, this landmark is known as ‘Northmead Dam’ and surprisingly a lot of locals are not aware of its existence.
To be fair, it is well hidden away.
The easiest way to access it would be at the end of Loyalty Road at North Rocks. Following the track down into the gully, the large concrete frame can be seen almost immediately.
Another way is to venture upon the bushwalking track that begins behind Hazel Ryan Oval, Whitbread Place just off North Rocks Road. The rugged path winds its way along the creek and to the foot of the dam. It would be a 45 minute to an hour hike.
There does appear to be a third way, on the Northmead side, somewhere near the ‘Rifle Range Steps’.
